Homestead Livery and Riding Club

The August and September events were once again well attended, with everyone who attended enjoying the Dressage and Combined Training and the two Show Cross days. The September show went well despite the cold wind and we had a few who actually dared to put on their bling and enter the first Homestead Concours d’Elegance – brilliant effort to all who entered!

All in all we have had a great competition season and the scores are currently being accumulated (see the web site for final class totals) for the Presentation Evening on Saturday 13th November at The Owl, Hambleton. Don’t forget if you are not there you forfeit your trophy to the next highest placed combination!

The points have been counted and verified – so without further ado the 2010 supreme champions are… Megan Howson and Casper, retaining the title from 2009 with a clear 32 point lead over Toni Tait & Vogue Imperial who pick up the reserve spot. Well done guys!

Thanks again to the great weather we have had the June & July Shows were very well attended – despite the World Cup clash in June. It has also been great to see a huge increase in the number of spectators as well!

The Dressage & CT in June was also a great success with almost 40 entries as was the Show Cross in early July. The new XC fences have been very well received, and the events so far have been a great opportunity to “have-a-go”, with no time or elimination pressure!

What a sizzling start to the showing season on 23rd May! Attendance at the first show of the season was fantastic helped along by the weather of course. The 1st show cross day was also a great success with the new XC jumps arriving in the nick of time. For June we have dressage and the June championship show and July sees the start of the Thursday evening show jumping, more show cross and the July championship show. So lots to prepare for with a new batch of clinics – but remember book early to avoid disappointment…

Welcome back to everyone for the new Riding Club year and as usual we have a wealth of events planned for the year including clinics, points shows, evening show jumping, dressage and new this year – show cross. The club season kicks off for real in May, however, to fine tune yourself and your four-legged friend we have some clinics to offer in advance…

There are many innovations this year including big changes to the show jumping format, veteran horse society Olympia area qualifiers, a working hunter course and new classes including Ideal Partners and Concours d’Elegance.

On the riding club side of things, in addition to the regular thursday evening show jumping and dressage and combined training days we’re going to be running a brand new show cross event. Thanks to everyone who attended the Presentation Night – it was a great night and everyone did really well, especially Megan Howson and Casper winning the overall Championship! Well it’s now the run up to Christmas and to follow a smattering of clinics to keep you all occupied when you are not pounding the streets looking for the perfect Christmas gift for your four legged friend.

As we move into Autumn, the nights are drawing in, the rugs are back from cleaning, the ponies are starting to get shaggy again, ah well it had to end at some point!

Anyway, all of us who attended the XC training day had a great time, jumped our socks off and were provided with a great lunch – including Cheesecake to die for…  with that under our belts (not the cheesecake) we are all off to do a One Day Event shortly – so watch this space.

As a reminder – the last SHOW is on Sunday 27th so please come along & top-up your points for this year’s Trophies! To help, the usual smattering of clinics – including some from Mark Taylor, who showed us all how it was done “Western” style at the demo last month, so we thought you might like to try it yourselves.

The updated championship points are now available on the Homestead web site. It’s getting close at the top of the table – with just two shows to go there are only three points separating the top two championship contenders.

Many of the individual class trophies are also still very much up for grabs – so if you have your eye on some silverware, make doubly sure you’re at our additional show on August 23rd!

We hope you had a successful outing at the show today – thankfully, despite the odd shower the weather held off just long enough for us to have a great day!

Due to popular demand we are adding another points show to our calendar this year. So, cross out anything else you were planning on doing this Sunday August 23rd and we’ll see you then!
